WHAT We're Doing

The CalTech-MIT Voting Technology Project is putting together a team of MIT faculty and students to work the polls in Cambridge and Boston during the Presidential Elections on November 2nd, 2004.

Volunteers will get the chance to observe poll openings, operations, and closing, including all measures in place to ensure accurate and fair counts. To be an official poll worker, you must be registered in either Cambridge or Boston, but volunteers can also help out in the election offices.

Those who are registered and work in the polls will be compensated. Boston pays $100 - $150 for a full days work in the polls and Cambridge $12-14 per hour for a 14-hour day.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Joy Forsythe (joy@theory.csail.mit.edu)

WHY You Should Do This

2004 is an important election year, and the debate on voting systems is raging in the press. This is your chance to see democracy in action, to observe the way voting really works!

When you send us your report, you'll also be helping the Caltech-MIT Voting Technology Project. We're working to provide guidance to election officials and elected representatives to help improve voting in the US. Your observations will help us understand the system.
