"The proposal should be submitted before the end of the seventh week of the term of initial thesis registration" (from form 39031) 2) Before a candidates name can be included on the degree list for the Master's, the student muyst have registered for at least 12 units of thesis and have submitted an acceptable thesis proposal" (from form 39031). TQE 1) must submit form by registration day of the second semester 2) must be completed by the end of the 3rd semester RQE 1) must submit form by end of 3rd semester 2) must be completed by end of 4th semester Doctoral Thesis Proposal 1) Must be submited by end of 6th term OR 8th? (memo 3800 says 8th -- but warning letters mention the 6th. Minor 1) must submit ? 2) Must be completed by? Thesis Examination 1) "Recommend having it held the first half of the final term" (from 3800 memo) Thesis Defense Signed Thesis 1) "Due approximately two weeks before the end of any regular term, and one week before the end of a summer term" (from 3800 memo) And, here is what the 3800 memo uses as a recommended sequence: First term: Prepare plan for TQE. Submit TQE plan by end of IAP Take one or more advanced subjects to satisfy TQE. Second term: Take remaining advanced subjects to satisfy TQE Submit SM thesis proposal TQE written examinations will be held at end of term Third term: Students who have not demonstrated competence in four topics will take an oral examination. Students who have completed the TQE will apply for and complete the RQE. Most students will have completed the SM program End of fourth regular term: Students who have not completed the TQE can continue in the doctoral program only with the explicit permission of the Committee on Graduate students. Fifth regular term: Students who have not submitted a Master's thesis will not receive financial support from the Department. Students must apply to take the RQE if they have not already done so. End of sixth regular term: Students who have not qualified (i.e. completed the RQE satisfactorily and completed the Master's degree requirements) may continue in the doctoral program only with the explicit permission of the Committee on Graduate Students. Doctoral thesis proposal should have been submitted. Ninth regular term: Students who have not submitted a doctoral proposal will not receive financial support from the Department. All post-qualification requirements (subjects, teaching, minor) should be complete. After the fourteenth regular term: Continuation in the doctoral program requires explicit approval by the Committee on Graduate Students each term based on the recommendation of the student's DC. Students who received the MEng degree from the Department begin to count terms after receiving the MEng degree.
